For most of my life I was just like so many other people in this world. I was lost and didn't even know it. My diet was unhealthy, I had maladaptive coping mechanisms, my emotional intelligence was terrible, and I had a history of unhealthy relationships. At the time I had no idea, I was just sleep walking through my life.
About 6 years ago, I slowly started to wake up. The first thing I did was give up alcohol. This has proven to be an amazingly beneficial choice in so many different ways. A couple years later, I ended a long-term unhealthy relationship. The quality of our relationships is one of the biggest factors in our overall health and longevity, and this was a huge step in my wellness journey. About a year after that I started learning about trauma and its effect on our brain and how it molds the lens through which we view the world. This was undoubtedly the opening of pandoras box. From trauma I branched out into almost every conceivable area of health & wellness. Neuroscience, nutrition, fasting, mindfulness, meditation, exercise methods, sleep science and so much more. I quickly developed an insatiable hunger to learn, and started devouring everything I could get my hands on. From articles & documentaries, to podcasts & books. This was when I really started to "wake up", & gain a much deeper self-awareness.
Speaking from personal experience I can safely say that becoming more aware of your body, your mind, & your thoughts, brings with it a new sense of freedom and self-mastery. A feeling of finally starting to be in control of your life. From what I have seen, there is one drawback though. The more aware I became of myself, the more I became aware of the unhealthy lifestyle choices and unnecessary suffering of those around me. A suffering that comes from being completely unaware of how our choices and our allowed mindset effects our own health & wellness. An effect that is far greater than the power of our own genetics. The choices we make in our daily lives can actually turn certain genes on or off like a light switch. This is the burden of knowledge, but this is also where my passion to help others was born from. Having my eyes opened to the general state of our society is what drove me to make the decision to become a health coach. To share what I have learned in an effort to help others live a fulfilled and meaningful life of total mind and body wellness that every human is entitled to. In essence, I have been called to serve.
